Quoting and Invoicing That Actually Gets You Paid on Time
A clear, compliant invoice isn't just an admin formality — it's one of the simplest ways to get paid on time, and it protects you if a payment dispute ever comes up.
What a compliant tax invoice needs
- Your identity (name or business name) and ABN
- The words “Tax Invoice” clearly stated
- Date of issue
- A description of what was supplied
- The GST amount (if registered), and total price
Why itemising matters
Breaking out labour separately from materials on every invoice makes it far easier to resolve a dispute if one arises — a client questioning the total is a very different conversation from a client questioning one specific line item.
A practical habit
Send the invoice promptly, and follow up in writing (not just a phone call) if payment is late — a paper trail matters if you ever need to escalate an unpaid invoice.
